Give away and find treasures on the map

Things people give away, hidden in chests: how to ask for them and how to give away yours.

Before you start

Looking needs nothing. To ask for or give away something you only need an email: no accounts or passwords.

Step by step

  1. Look for the chests

Press “Treasure hunt” in the bar at the bottom of the map (on mobile, the chest icon) to see everything being given away now, by type. On the map, treasures show as chests when you zoom in to street level: open with gold if available, closed if already reserved.

  2. Ask for the one you like

Open the chest or its page and press “I want it”. Write your name, email and a message: it reaches the giver by email, who will reply straight to your email. Neither of you sees the other’s email on the site. Everything is free.

  3. Hide a treasure

Press “Hide a treasure” (or right-click on the map and choose “Hide a treasure here”). Say what it is, its type, a description and up to three real photos. Mark the area where it’s collected, not your front door: on the map it’s rounded to about 100 metres.

  4. Talk to whoever wants it

When someone asks for it, you’ll get an email with their message. Reply and arrange the pick-up. You may get several messages: you choose who gets it.

  5. Mark it when it’s gone

You get into “My treasures” with a link sent to your email. There you mark it as reserved (the chest closes), given away (it leaves the map), renew it for 30 more days or remove it. If you do nothing, it comes off by itself after 30 days and we’ll ask if you want to renew it.

If something doesn’t go as expected

My treasure doesn’t show on the map

If the text had a word about selling, animals, weapons or medicines, we review it before publishing; we’ll explain by email. This is for giving away only.

I asked for a treasure and got no reply

The giver decides who gets it and may take a while. Check your spam folder too. If the chest is already closed, it’s reserved.

Something isn’t right

Every treasure has “Report”: if it’s being sold, can’t be given away, is gone or looks like a scam. After several reports it’s hidden until we review it.

When you finish

You’ll know how to find what’s being given away near you, ask for it and hide your own treasures.
